A FINE PAINTING, A GLASS OF WINE…

Ars et Vino – Art & Wine – are soon to be happily conjoined at LyonsHead Gallery. After many months of talk, we’ve finally acted. Soon, you can enjoy both solid and liquid art, and linger for genteel wine tasting. The major news is (drum roll, please) JOYCE VINEYARDS, producers of CHATEAU CHRISTINA, will offer the wine.

Also, we are finally completing the remodeling job we’ve been putting off. We will have that longed-for additional wall space to better exhibit the works of our local artists.

Come by and enjoy the construction dust for the next couple of weeks, then plan to join us for some wine with the art. We hope to be finished with the remodeling before mid November. We will be observing our regular hours right through the great adventure.

TRADITION!

LyonsHead Gallery continues our tradition of “First Fridays”. On the First Friday of the month, from 5 PM until 8 PM, we feature at least one of our artists. Now you can ask the artist directly what he or she is trying to say through a particular work. The evenings are relaxed and enhanced with refreshments.

Additionally, several of our business neighbors on Delfino Place, including Avant Garden, Mix, The Village Artists’ Studio, Lights of Rome and Deborah Russell’s Art Studio are usually open for First Friday festivities.

Regular LyonsHead Gallery hours are 11 AM until 5 PM, Tuesday though Sunday. For more information, call Sandy Jonsson or Whit Taylor at 831.659.4192.

Johnny Apodaca
Johnny Apodaca has gone "big" - really big. He has favored us with some splendid new oils and landscapes that fairly sing with color and energy. One floral, at 54x72, may be our largest still life ever. In a gesture to his plein air past, Johnny also has done several profound, yet modestly sized, studies of local venues.

Ann Walbert: Gone North, But Still With Us
The rumors are true. Ann Walbert has moved to Friday Harbor, WA, in the San Juan Islands. However, she has promised that we will continue to receive new work of hers and that we will actually see more of her, now that she has her studio in the Great Northwest. When she is in Carmel, she won't feel obliged to be painting the entire time.

Barry John Raybould News
There have been several confirmed sightings of Barry John Raybould (BJR), three by a member of the LyonsHead team. When we last left off the BJR saga, he was living the life of an upper bohemian in Venice. Now he has a pied a terre in Italy (actually a collapsed villa he is rebuilding), Panama (a clean, well lighted home overlooking the Atlantic) and Robles del Rio in Carmel Valley (a studio at the home of his sister-in-law. BJR left some grand pieces with us; his treatment of the drama of skies is exhilarating.

Certificate Of Authenticity For S. C. Yuan's Works
Works held by the estate of S.C. Yuan are represented by Lyonshead. Each piece is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed and sealed by Yuan's daughter. Some selected works have been chosen for giclee fine art prints, enabling everyone to enjoy this artist's extraordinary work. See our Giclee Print page to view some of the images.

S. C. Yuan Originals for Everyone
For those of us who gaze in wonder and longing at original S.C. Yuan oils, but somehow just can't find how to fit a purchase of one into the family budget, there is good news. Rae Yuan, daughter of S. C. Yuan and friend of LyonsHead, has provided us with several gorgeous (and beautifully framed) original sketches done by her father. These are not only marvelous to behold, but they give much insight into the integrity of line and form that underpins all of his work. The prices? You can have an original S. C. Yuan for less than the cost of a weekend excursion to Fresno. Each sketch includes a certificate of authenticity bearing the unique estate number.

Christmas at Lyonshead & Grand Opening of Joyce Vineyards (Chateau Christina) Wine Tasting Bar
December 6, 2008 5:00-8:00 pm Join us for some Christmas Cheer and see the recently renovated gallery and enjoy the new wine tasting venue

Walter Georis - "Back to the Easel"
Walter Georis has returned to his easel and is painting some spectacular new works. He has recently added two paintings to his body of work at LyonsHead - a very fine still life and a large canvas depicting a horse and rider. Both are "must see" paintings. To those many people who have asked how Walter finds the time to excel as a vintner, architectural designer, restaurateur and artist, we finally have the definitive answer: "We haven't a clue."

Fred Carvell Acclaimed for Carmel Art Association Show(s)
Anyone who can correctly cite the number of shows Fred Carvell has had at the Carmel Art Association will receive a 5% discount on any of Fred's work on exhibit at LyonsHead. This offer is good through the end of February, 2005. Hint: The number is greater than 3. So, if have an unsatisfied yearning to own an original Carvell, or just want to know what the excitement is about, we can help.

To Frame Or Not To Frame?
We are often asked about how paintings at LyonsHead are selected fro framing - and who makes the choice of frame. The answer is fairly straightforward: The artists themselves elect whether and how to frame their pieces. For those pieces that are unframed, we can help with guiding you to good framers. If you see a framed piece that you would like to frame differently, we're happy to call the artist on your behalf to work out an arrangement.

Mark Farina's Versatility On Display
Mark's array of work at LyonsHead, from figures to still life to pleine aire scenes, rendered in media from watercolor to oil, show his astounding versatility. Always in demand as an instructor, his own paintings attest to the depth of his ability and his willingness to explore different subjects and media. In addition to teaching, Mark is a member of the Carmel Art Association. Recent distinctions include being honored by the California Watercolor Society and the Academic Artist National Exhibition (the latter was held in Springlfield, Mass.).

Sukhi Dail Returns From European Tour
Sukhi has just returned from his Grand Tour of Europe. His gallery managers in Paris, Brussels and Berlin all enthused over his new enameled bronze sculptures. This is supposed to be confidential, yet delight compels us to report that Suhki's pieces are selling in Europe, to serious collectors, for 6000 euros and up. We, ahem, have a different price - please call for any details on his work.

Special Occasion? Consider Renting The Gallery...
The gallery, with its lovely, adjoining patio, is available for special occasions. It's ideal for small receptions, birthday parties, wine tastings, etc. Please feel free to contact us for all the details.
