Fred Carvell is a contemporary landscape artist. He is a colorist, inspired by the scenic beauty of the Carmel and Salinas Valleys and the mountainous, coastal regions that remind him of his travels in the Mediterranean countries of Portugal, Italy and Greece.
He employs the use of acid-free paper, fixed to board or other firm support to which he applies layers of acrylic paint in harmonious earth tones to achieve luminous, small-scale landscapes. His work verges on the abstract, but does not depart from the recognizable, natural attributes he presents to the viewer.
Fred, who now lives in Carmel Valley, California, has painted for over thirty years. He attended Fresno State University and post graduate studies at Stanford University. His paintings are held in collections throughout the State of California and in Dallas, Texas. He is a member of the Pacific Grove Art Association and the Carmel Art Association.
